Map Elements
Information:
The Information tab displays the results of an Identify action and the Welcome screen to the application.
The View Feature Information subtab is populated after an Identify action is taken.
The View Feature Information subtab lists information about the feature selected in the Active Layer only.
Layers:
The available map layers are listed in the Layers tab. Some map layers are scale-dependent and are only visible when zoomed
in to a threshold map scale. Each layer has a checkbox located to the left of the
layer name indicating whether the layer is currently being displayed. Select
the checkbox to make the layer visible, deselect the checkbox to hide the layer. Grey check boxes
indicate scale-dependent layers that are currently disabled due to the scale of the map
Active Layer:
The Active Layer of the map is the layer that the current tool will act upon.
Only one map layer can be active at a time. The Active Layer is highlighted orange in the Layer tab. To make a layer the "Active" layer,
using your left mouse button click to the right of the name of the layer in the Layer tab. If the layer
does not appear in orange it is not active. The Select Feature and Identify tools operate on the Active Layer
only. Certain layers are not eligible to serve as the Active Layer. This includes imagery layers such as
Elevation and 24K TOPO.
Legend:
The Legend tab illustrates the symbology used to represent
features within the map area.
Find:
The Find tab can be used to find a Parcel, Layer, or Scale. We've provided specific information to search Parcels by.
The Find Layer subtab provides a fully open way to search for feature data. You can search on any field in any layer. Lastly, the Find Scale
subtab provides a way for you to zoom down to a given scale level. From here, you can print at that scale level by selecting the Print
button in the main toolbar.
The Find tab also contains an Parcel Search feature. You can use this feature to search for parcels using specific conditions.
Once executed, the result of you search will be display where you can use the following tools
Select the adjoining map features
Zoom to the map feature
Or get a detailed report about the map feature
Results:
The Results tab is used to display the results returned from a Selection by either the rectangle or polygon tool.
Tools:
Start Over Button:
This button will re-center and zoom the map out to the extent of the initial map.
Zoom-In Tool:
This tool can be used in two ways, either by single-clicking or clicking and dragging
with the mouse on the map. A single click anywhere on the map will re-center
and zoom in a fixed amount. You can also click and drag the cursor to create
a rectangle and highlight an area to zoom in to. The extent of the defined rectangle
will become the new extent.
Zoom-Out Tool:
This tool has the opposite effect of the Zoom-In tool and can also be used in two
ways. A single click anywhere on the map will re-center and zoom out a fixed
amount. You can also click and drag the cursor to create a rectangle and highlight
an area to zoom out to. The extent of the defined rectangle will determine the
new map extent.
Pan Tool:
This tool is used to move and re-center the map. A single click of the
left mouse button will re-center the map based on the location of the cursor click point.
You can also drag the map to a new location by holding down the left mouse button while
moving the mouse/map to a new location. When the left mouse button is released, a new
(re-centered) map image will be created.
Select Box:
This tool allows you to drag a rectangle onto the screen that makes up your selection area.
The selection is made using the extent you create with the rectangle and the Active Layer.
Select Poly:
This tool allows you to create a polygon onto the screen that makes up your selection area.
The selection is made using the extent you create with the polygon and the Active Layer.
Clear Tool:
This tool clears the different selections made on the screen.
Identify Tool:
This tool is used to obtain information on map features of the Active
Layer.To use this tool, make the layer you wish to identify Active (See "Active
Layer" in the map elements help section). Next, click on the feature in the map for
which you wish to obtain information. The results will appear in the information tab.
Measure Tool:
This tool allows you to draw a polygon to measure different metrics on the active map.
Print Tool:
This tool is used to create a printable window of the current map image. All selections remain and you are
able to add a title and description to the map before printing.
Help Tool:
This tool is used to show the help screen for the current GIS application.
