Instructions for filing personal property online

CAN ONLY BE USED FOR A NEWLY PURCHASED, LEASED, SOLD/DISPOSAL VEHICLE OR YOU HAVE MOVED HERE FROM ANOTHER LOCALITY

The title number is located on your vehicle registration card. If you do not have a title number assigned, you may fax a copy of you registration card/bill of sale along with this form to 772-2015 or you may bring the information into the office.

General Filing Instructions

The online forms can only be used for a newly purchased, leased, sold/disposal vehicle or you have move from another locality.
Online filing is for Roanoke County or Town of Vinton residents only.
Businesses cannot file online at this time.
You must contact the DMV (1-866-368-5463 or www.dmvnow.com) prior to filing your personal property if you moved from out of state. You must also contact DMV when you sell, trade, or otherwise dispose of a vehicle
Failure to file your Personal Property within 60 days of the above transaction (s) results in a 10% late filing penalty per the State Code of Virginia.
If you only have a bill of sale, complete the form, print/scan it, attach copy of the bill of sale and temporary registration and send it by email, postal mail or fax.

However, an annual non-prorated, non-refundable Vehicle Licensing Fee (VLF) will be applied to your tax bill per vehicle. A transfer of the fee is allowed for $1.00 when a vehicle is disposed of and replaced by another vehicle within 60 day period.
